What is hypnosis?
It is trance like state where the conscious and subconscious minds come into focus together. When you are in this relaxed trance state, you have access to the subconscious mind which is more open to suggestion.
Is it safe?
Yes, it’s completely safe. You will be blissfully relaxed and still aware of everything going on around you. In a trance state we are still in control and capable of processing information and suggestions to decide if they are useful or not. You won’t do anything against your own will.
What happens in each session?
Initial Consultation: The first session is completely free and lasts between 20-30 minutes. This is a chance for us to meet, for me to gather some relevant personal information and for us to talk about how hypnotherapy can benefit you.
There is no trance in this initial consultation, but you will be given an MP3 (or CD if you prefer) to listen to before we meet again.
Hypnotherapy Sessions: Each session lasts around 50-60 minutes and consists of Solution Focused Brief Therapy followed by the trance relaxation.
Relaxation Sessions: 40 minutes of pure deep relaxation trance. These sessions don’t include the talking therapy, however can be adapted to suit your needs as we continue to work together.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies depending on your needs, for example treatment of phobias may require around 3 – 4 sessions, treatment of depression or anxiety may require approximately 8 – 10 sessions. Stopping smoking is a single 2 hr session.
All of these are subject to change depending on individuals’ needs, and results cannot be guaranteed.
What can Hypnotherapy help with?
Hypnotherapy is effective for a whole range of issues. It can help with anxiety, depression, addictions, anger, stress, pain, stopping smoking, weight control, lack of confidence, insomnia, IBS, sport performance, chronic pain, relationship difficulties, migraine, nail biting, nightmares, obsessions, panic attacks, fears, phobias, and much more.
It is also particularly helpful for habit breaking, stress-related issues and for a range of long-term conditions. In recent years the approach has been gaining recognition in the medical world after a recommendation from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) who recognise Hypnotherapy as a treatment for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Is Hypnotherapy safe for children?
Yes, it’s considered to be very safe and effective for children and young adults. It can help with a range of issues such as bed-wetting, exam stress and low self-esteem. Children in particular respond well as they tend to have vivid imaginations and use their subconscious minds a lot more than adults do.
